CRAYOLA X MONSTARS

Artist collaboration

OUR UNDERSTANDING

Crayola is a company that has inspired artistic creativity in children for over 100 years - since the first box of Crayola crayons rolled off the assembly line in 1903. The company began when cousins Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith took over Edwin’s father’s pigment business in 1885. Early products included red oxide pigment used as barn paint and carbon black used in car tires and have expanded to an array of products that give children worldwide a unique way to express themselves through art and creativity.

THE INITIATIVE

Drawing upon the conceptual value of the You Pick 24 Count Crayons series, we propose a project that brings together key emerging artists to create a unique capsule collection of products and merchandise designed to elevate the Crayola name to the global artistic community. Aligned with the legacy values of the Crayola brand, these artists will comprise a diverse array of locations, ages, and aesthetics, artists whose work is true to their values and which will empower children to create aspirationally and further engage with the brand on many levels.

The series will commence by featuring the work of Jack Chin Barker, a 16-year-old American artist whose collection of Monstars characters inspires us to embrace our unique identities and celebrate our differences.

MonStar x Strala Collab

Strala Yoga

16-year-old superstar artist Jack Barker designed this special Strala world, filled with ease and colorful adventures.

The limited edition tank is super-cozy and loose-fitting, with MonStar graphic on the front, MonStar x Strala logo on the back. All the profits from sale of this tank are going directly to Jack Barker to support his work. This work of art will be a collectors' item fast. You might want to grab one to keep, and a couple to wear before they're gone.

"I created MonStars to celebrate our unique personalities and emotions. We all have an inner MonStar waiting to be discovered and celebrated." - Jack Chin Barker

The Barkers are the kindest family with heaps of talent. I've known Crissy and Kimmy for years through yoga, and got to know Nigel through them and some fun photo gigs they so generously included me on.

So I'm not surprised and also so happy for this mega-talent and kindness their son Jack has. Daisy is so interested in his work also and ready for her internship. Coming up is their youngest superstar Jasmine, who just made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week. This family gives me goosebumps. They do big things with kindness, and remind us all that achieving our goals and being a good person go hand-in-hand.
